Managing Your Green Gas (GGL) Bill in Lucknow and Agra

If you’re a resident of the City of Nawabs (Lucknow) or the City of Love (Agra), you’re likely using Piped Natural Gas (PNG) from Green Gas Limited (GGL). GGL, a joint venture of GAIL and IOCL, has modernized thousands of kitchens by providing a safe and continuous fuel supply. But when the bill arrives every two months, understanding the “SCM” (Standard Cubic Meter) consumption can be a challenge. Why is the total higher than an LPG cylinder? How do the fixed charges work?

PNG is not just about convenience; it’s about paying only for what you actually use. No more worrying about the “last bit of gas” in a cylinder. However, to keep your household budget on track, you need to understand your consumption patterns. Our calculator uses the latest May 2026 rates for Green Gas to give you an accurate picture of your monthly expenses.

Piped natural gas (PNG) tariffs and service charges vary significantly by local city gas distribution (CGD) provider. The Components of Your GGL Bill

  • Bi-Monthly Consumption: GGL usually bills every 60 days. This means your bill reflects two months of cooking at once. Don’t be surprised by the total; it’s actually for two billing cycles!
  • SCM Units: Your meter tracks gas in SCM. 1 SCM is roughly what an average family needs for a full day of standard cooking (breakfast, lunch, and dinner).
  • Fixed Service Charges: A small flat fee is charged every billing cycle to cover the cost of the pipeline network maintenance and 24/7 safety response teams.

5 Practical FAQs for Green Gas (GGL) Consumers

1. How do I provide my meter reading to Green Gas?

GGL meter readers visit once every two months. If you’re not home, you can submit the reading via the GGL official website or their customer portal. Always take a photo of the meter digits (black background) for your records to ensure you get an “Actual” bill instead of an “Estimated” one.

2. Is PNG safer than using an LPG cylinder in old city areas?

Yes. Piped Natural Gas (PNG) is lighter than air. In case of a leak, it rises and escapes through windows. LPG is heavier than air and “pools” on the floor, which is much more dangerous, especially in congested areas. Also, GGL pipelines operate at very low pressure for domestic use, which is much safer than a high-pressure cylinder.

3. My bill says “Minimum Consumption.” What does that mean?

GGL has a policy where they charge you for a minimum amount of gas (usually 4-5 SCM per month) even if your actual consumption is lower. This covers the operational cost of maintaining the connection to your house. It ensures the infrastructure is always ready and safe for your use.

4. Why is the gas flame color yellow sometimes?

A healthy flame is blue. A yellow flame means the gas isn’t burning efficiently, often due to a clogged burner or lack of air. Clean your burners with a small brush or pin. If the color remains yellow, call GGL maintenance, as it might be an issue with the local gas pressure or moisture in the line.

5. Can I pay my Green Gas bill using UPI?

Yes, absolutely. GGL is listed on all major UPI apps like Google Pay, PhonePe, and Paytm. You will need your unique “Customer ID” or “Consumer Number” printed on your bill. Digital payment is the best way to avoid late payment surcharges (usually 2%) and keep a history of your expenses.
