Managing Your IndianOil-Adani (IOAGPL) Gas Bill

If you’re using Piped Natural Gas (PNG) from IndianOil-Adani Gas Private Limited (IOAGPL), you’re backed by two of India’s biggest energy giants. Whether you’re in the beautiful hills of Kerala or the busy sectors of Chandigarh, IOAGPL provides a safe and continuous gas supply. But like any utility, the transition from cylinders to “SCM” (Standard Cubic Meter) billing can take some time to understand.

PNG is not just about convenience; it’s about paying only for what you use. No more worrying about the “last bit of gas” in a cylinder. However, to keep your bills low, you need to understand your consumption patterns and the billing cycle. Our calculator uses the latest May 2026 rates for IOAGPL to give you a precise estimate of your monthly kitchen expenses.

What Should You Know About IOAGPL Billing?

  • The SCM Logic: Your meter tracks gas in Standard Cubic Meters. Think of 1 SCM as roughly what you need for a full day of standard cooking for a small family.
  • Billing Frequency: Depending on your city, IOAGPL usually bills every two months. This means your first bill might look high, but it actually covers 60 days of usage.
  • Security Deposit: Most IOAGPL connections involve an initial refundable security deposit. This is not a bill charge but a one-time payment for the infrastructure.

5 Practical FAQs for IOAGPL Consumers

1. How do I read my IOAGPL gas meter?

Your meter has 8 digits. The first 5 digits (usually in a black background) are the whole SCM units you have used. The last 3 digits (in red) are the decimals. When you submit your reading on the IOAGPL app or portal, only provide the black digits. Subtracting your old reading from this new one tells you exactly how much gas you’ve burnt this month.

2. Is it safe to leave the main gas valve open at night?

Modern PNG systems are incredibly safe and have multiple cut-off valves. However, as a best practice, most safety experts recommend closing the “appliance valve” (the one near your stove) at night or when you’re leaving the house for more than 24 hours. It’s a simple habit that adds an extra layer of security to your home.

3. My bill says “Estimated Reading.” Why?

This happens when the IOAGPL meter reader couldn’t access your meter (perhaps your door was locked). In such cases, the system generates a bill based on your previous 3 months’ average. To fix this, you can manually submit your actual reading via the IOAGPL mobile app, and the difference will be adjusted in your next bill.

4. Why is there a “Fixed Charge” on my bill even if I didn’t use gas?

The fixed charge (usually around ₹50-₹70) covers the cost of maintaining the high-pressure pipeline network and the emergency response teams that are available 24/7. It’s like a “subscription fee” for the convenience of having gas available at your fingertips instantly, without ever needing to book a cylinder.

5. Can I use IOAGPL gas for a room heater?

In North India, many people use gas-based room heaters. While it’s very effective, remember that a room heater consumes gas much faster than a stove burner. If you run a heater for 4-5 hours a day, your SCM units will jump significantly. Always use the calculator to estimate the extra cost before the winter starts.
